Korean brand SsangYong has used the Geneva motor Show to reveal its new Musso pick-up.
Arriving in June, with prices kicking off under the £20,000 mark, the newcomer joins the pick-up market at its a lot of competitive. It will rival the Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger and automobile Express’s much-loved – the Mitsubishi L200.

The new Musso uses the underpinnings of the new Rexton SUV and shares some of that car’s styling with a similar front-end. but from the rear doors backwards, the Musso has a pick-up bed that’s created to fit a Euro pallet, although it is slightly shorter but broader than a Mitsubishi L200’s rear deck.

Inside the Musso pinches the Rexton’s interior so there’s a car-like feel with soft-touch plastics across the dash and doors where rivals’ offerings tend to offer scratchier plastics. There’s seating for five while top-line models will have nappa leather seats that are heated and ventilated.
The Musso is 110mm and 267mm shorter than an L200 and Ford Ranger respectively, but SsangYong will offer a version with a 400mm longer cargo area in early 2019. The two models will be sold side-by-side to gauge customer preference before the range is scaled back to one version only for the UK market. Unlike rivals, the Musso will only come in double cab guise with no single cab model offered.

The Musso will also come in three trim levels but in a step to increase model awareness, the pick-up will wear a lot more exciting trim level names. rather than falling in line with standard SsangYong nomenclature like SE, LX and ELX, the Musso will have names – much like Mitsubishi does with Barbarian, animal and Warrior versions of its L200. prices will start below £20,000 and rise to a little over £25,000.
Under the bonnet is one of SsangYong’s 2.2-litre diesels as found in the Rexton with six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes offered. The engine pushes out 178bhp and 400Nm with CO2 emissions ranging from 211 to 226g/km and fuel economy between 32.8 and 35.8mpg. The new Musso has a one-tonne payload and a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.
